Anita A. Gilster, 75, of Waukon, IA, died Monday, December 2, 2013, at Northgate Care Center in Waukon. Funeral services will be held Saturday, December 7th, at 11:00 AM at St. John's Lutheran Church in Waukon, with Rev. Lynn G. Groe officiating. Burial will be at Pleasant View Cemetery, Castalia, IA. Friends may call one hour before services at the church on Saturday. Martin Funeral Home in Waukon is assisting the family with arrangements.
Anita Ann Gilster was born on March 30, 1938, on the rural Monona, IA, farm of her parents Earl and Grace (Welzel) Gilster. She was baptized at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Monona, and confirmed at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Postville, IA. Anita attended school in Castalia, IA, and graduated from Postville High School in 1958. She was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church, where she was active in the ladies circles, helped with Sunday School and Vacation Bible School. Anita enjoyed watching sports on television, especially baseball, and liked playing cards, listening to music, embroidering, and taking bus trips. She loved being with friends and family and attending community events.
Survivors include a brother Donald (Darlene) Gilster of Postville, IA; a sister-in-law Mary Gilster of Omaha, NE; several nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. She is preceded in death by her parents, and a brother Louis Gilster.
Casketbearers are Robert and Cheryl Luenberger, Randy and Mavis Holthaus, Wayne Gilster, Danny and Theresa Gilster, and Dawn Gilster.
