Alice Josephine Miller

Alice J. Miller, 82, of Waukon, IA, formerly of Dorchester, IA, died Monday, November 27, 2017, at Northgate Care Center in Waukon. A prayer service will be held Tuesday, December 5th, at 3:00 PM at Martin Funeral Home in Waukon, with Rev. Lynn G. Groe officiating. Private family burial of ashes will be held at a later date in Iowa River Cemetery in rural Dorchester. Friends may call from 1:00 PM until time of services at the funeral home.
Alice Josephine Miller was born March 19, 1935, in Waukon, IA, the daughter of Henry and Marguerite Gertrude (Blake) Larson. She grew up in the Dorchester and Waukon area, attending Bear Creek and Dutch Hill elementary schools in rural Dorchester and graduating from Waukon High School in 1953. During high school, Alice worked for the Waukon Greenhouse for her room and board. After graduation, she moved to Rochester, MN, for two years and worked for Marigold Dairies. Alice then moved to Long Beach, CA. While there, she did bookkeeping and other office work for several firms, including Sea-Land Industry (a container manufacturing firm) for 17 years.
On November 22, 1966, Alice married Keith William Miller in Las Vegas, NV, and in 1985, the couple retired to Dorchester, IA. She enjoyed bowling and traveling, and especially liked going to Las Vegas. Alice was a cat lover, and loved the Siamese cats she raised with Keith.
Alice is survived by her siblings: Genevieve Rude of Decorah, IA, Rose Ann Williams of Pine Island, MN, Anna Marie (Tony) Danaher of Casper, WY, Kathy (Norbert) Kruse of Dorchester, Linda Eiken of Spring Grove, MN, and Kenneth (Sharon) Larson of Dorchester; and two sisters-in-law: Joanne Larson of Waukon and Diane Johnson of Soldiers Grove, WI; and a brother-in-law Al Ullerich of Guttenberg, IA.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Keith who died in 1995; six brothers: Henry, Larry, Herbert, Ralph, Lowell, and Walter; a sister Karen Ullerich; a sister-in-law Mavis Larson; and three brothers-in-law: Charles Rude, Bart Williams, and Joe Eiken.
