Alan West, 46, of Waukon, IA, formerly of San Francisco, CA, died Thursday, February 26, 2026, at Froedtert Hospital in Milwaukee, WI. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, March 3rd, at 11:00 AM at St. John's Lutheran Church in Waukon, IA, with Pastor Mark Oehlert officiating. Lunch will follow in the church hall, where friends can greet the family. Burial will be at Oakwood Cemetery in Lewis, IA, on Friday, March 6th, at 12:00 PM. Martin-Grau Funeral Home in Waukon is handling arrangements.
Kenneth Alan West was born June 20, 1979, in Iowa City, IA, the son of Kenneth and Charlene (Jahnke) West. He lived in West Liberty, IA, for a short time before his parents took teaching jobs in Waukon, IA. Alan graduated from Waukon High School and then received his bachelors in electrical engineering from the University of Iowa. He stayed in Iowa City for a few years, then moved to San Francisco, CA, to work for Workday.
An independent soul, Alan loved the outdoors and traveled with friends all around the world. He did some scuba diving, thoroughly enjoyed hiking in places like Machu Picchu in Peru, and went to Ireland with his dad to watch the Masters Tournament. He was very close to his cousins and they spent many hours playing cards as kids.
He is survived by his mom Charlene West of Waukon; cousins including: Chris (Keri) and Jeremy Jahnke, Amie (Brent) Potter, Tamie (Brad) Madsen, Serena (Monte) Riesgaard, and Chris (Brenda), Byran (Kathy), Barry (Rose), Rodney, and Allison Jensen; his aunts: Linda Jahnke of Lewis, IA, Jackie Jensen of Avoca, IA, Linda Jensen of Council Bluffs, IA, and Alice West of Burke, VA; along with other family members.
Alan is preceded in death by his dad Ken; grandparents Floyd and Ruth West and Arlene and Cecil Jahnke; uncles Ron Jahnke and Jerry West; and aunts Lila Tye and Darlene Andersen.
