Al Burg, 96, of Waukon, IA, died Wednesday, January 2, 2013, at Wellington Place in Decorah, IA. Funeral services will be held Saturday, January 5th, at 11:00 AM at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Waukon, with Fr. Joseph Schneider officiating. Burial with military graveside rites will be at Mt. Olivet Cemetery, Waukon. Friends may call from 10:00 AM - 11:00 AM Saturday at the church in Waukon.
Aloysius Peter Burg was born May 28, 1916, in Caledonia, MN, the son of Philip and Cecelia (Ernster) Burg. Al attended schools in the Caledonia area. He served in the United States Army Air Force from 1941 until 1945 during WWII. He married Ivona Catherine Greisch at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Caledonia. They moved to Waukon, IA, where Al owned and operated the Burg Implement Dealership for over 40 years. He took great pride in meeting and taking care of his customers. He was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church. Al enjoyed boating, playing cards, and spending time with his family and friends.
Survivors include his children: Phil (Barbara) Burg of Pardeeville, WI, Paul (Jeannie) Burg of Decorah, IA, Dave Burg of Waukon, IA, Mike Burg, Joe Burg, and Mary (Michael) O'Hara all of Decorah, IA; 11 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents; his wife Ivona, who died in 1987; a brother: Arnold Burg; 4 sisters: Armella Palen, Leona Weichert, Cordula Brady and Celesta Sullivan.
